  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a procurement apprentice and therefore most of my roles are focused around procurement. This varies every three months as I move departments and may not be placed within procurement. On a day to day basis I am expected to attend meetings, attend apprentice events, complete my SVQ, attend college once a week and complete the objectives set out at the start of each placement.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently completing an SVWQ level three in business and completing a HNC at college. I also learn applicable skills to my job on a daily basis which mainly involves going out for quotes, setting up records and ordering items. This however is not always the case and during my time in sales a spent time reviewing business cases, using excel (a skill I previously did not have) and running a business winning review meeting.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured, although have had a couple of issues with decisions being made very last minute regarding my placements. On a whole though a very good plan is set out

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive very good training from staff within the company, my college tutors and to an extent my SVQ assessor, although my SVQ assessor does not actually teach me anything. Within the company lots of staff are willing to help with training and at college the lecturers are absolutely excellent at what they do.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The apprentice team immediately cater for all concerns or issues I have. For example my enrolment to college had not been done correctly and within an hour of my informing the apprentice team about this, the issue was resolved.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I still live at home with my parents and live on a direct bus route so therefore my living costs are not very high. The Leonardo apprentice programme pays very well for apprentices and this means I have an ample amount of money to save and enjoy.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The apprenticeship is well set up, I feel secure in my job, enjoy my job and on top of all this I feel the money is plentiful to live comfortably as an apprentice.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
  • Get involved with the application process, put in as much effort as possible and be optimistic. Leonardo is very good a the recruitment stage as even if a recruit does not get the job they happily give advice on what a recruit did well and what they could improve on.
