Apprentice Quantity Surveyor Review

My job title is Apprentice Quantity Surveyor. Day to day tasks can include Cost Analysis, Cost Verification, Contract Administration, Contract Implementation, Change Control, Tender Analysis as well as more general activities such as attending meetings.

I have learnt many new skills with Costain as well as developing my existing skills. They are a company who encourage training and courses to improve your knowledge and skill.

The programme is enjoyable as I am able to work and lean different aspects of quantity surveying gaining experience, skills, knowledge, expose and responsibility with contain on the projects i have worked on.

I feel valued as an employee as i am always involved as part of a team and have developed good relationships with the manager i have had.

The programme is reasonably well structured. Although there was some little bit of difficulty when I moved from the Level Three to a Degree Apprenticeship. And some elements that have been out of Costain's Control.

The training provide offers a responsible amount of support, as it is a university it is reliant on your input.

My employer provides a good level of support and there is always someone to contract if needed.

The salary is manageable, but it is frustrating that it is a set scale and your manger can only have limited input to your salary and the benefits you are entitled to. In some instance the work i have been completing it feel low.

There are many opportunities outside of work but these are often setup socially not by Costain or the project.

It is a good and well recognised company, one that will support and provide the training skill and qualifications you need to progress and succeed as a professional.

When applying for Costain i would advise that you have an very basic understand of what Costain do and there values.
