  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My course is in Retirement consultancy. Pinning down my day to day work would be difficult as this is frequently changing, which of course, adds to the enjoyment! The majority of the time it involves liaising with various advisers in the process of meeting preparation, controlling and managing the clients accounts via recording and sending invoices for payments, updating the clients regarding any concerns, and tracking member cases. At the time of writing, I have been at Aon for 6 months. In this time, I have been lucky enough to attend an array of client meetings which involved face to face interaction. This of course has been an amazing opportunity.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt a large amount of skills during my short time at Aon. Firstly, before starting this job I had no knowledge of pension scene but due to the nature of this course/program I believe my knowledge is now better than the average person! Learning on the job is extremely useful. I also believe I have learnt personal skills during my time at Aon. This is mainly centered around adopting a business behavior and coordinating my time. I personally feel the only way these skills can be developed is within the work environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme to the extent of looking forward to arriving to work everyday! Everyone I have met at Aon is extremely friendly and supportive. Colleagues go to great extents to ensure I understand each task and portray how it pieces into the greater client picture - which definitely makes you feel valued! My fear when joining as an apprentice would be that I would be 'looked down upon', however this is definitely not the case. After 6 months, I feel like a valued member of the team.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider is the PMI. Support is offered in their website and through the option of submitting assignments for marking from a PMI examiner. Although the PMI do offer little in the way of support, Aon have seeked external tutors. My tutor is from FWD Training who is extremely supportive and knowledgeable. I cannot give enough praise to my tutor!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
