Transport Planning Apprentice Review

My job title is Transport Planning Apprentice. I work at Palestra House in Southwark. On a daily basis I interact with placement manager, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], plus the colleagues in my team. I work in a department called network sponsorship. The projects I work on are based in North West London, in the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow and Ealing. I work on a number of things, from junction improvements to new cycling and walking schemes. I am responsible for my work and the quality of it. Every day is very different, one day I could be on a site visit looking at a potential scheme or the next I could be answering customer queries about the road network.

So far, only a few weeks into the placement, I have learnt quite a lot. I have learnt how to answer customer queries and how to data handle.

I very much enjoy the programme, the team are very nice and super supportive. The work is challenging but it allows me to push myself and my knowledge. The company culture is good and I surprised me a lot.

I feel very valued. The managers tell me very often how well I am doing. I have a big involvement with projects and schemes around the business. I don't have so much external recognition but that's ok.

Very well organised and structured. I had a very useful induction on the first two days, one for the company and one for the programme. I can attend training sessions to help me with my personal and professional development.

I receive a lot of support, if I need help I can ask and they will help. They are very friendly and easy to talk to.

I meets my costs very well. It allows me to save money and buy a coffee everyday.

There a loads of opportunities outside of work. They send emails out for new opportunities most days of the week. I can volunteer for events and careers fairs. I can also volunteer to help operational staff on the stations.

Read every they send to you. There will be a lot of information on emails and leaflets they send to you, so mak4e sure to read it all and take it in. Also be confident at the interview process. Most importantly, just be yourself.
