  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my Microsoft skills as I am using them more often and have learnt to use more specialised software such as ASite. Developing my Microsoft skills is a skill which I am able to use within my career around Transport for London or else were, it is a life skill and is really good to have. Using Asite allows me to understand how payments or project information is kept confidential and on record.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Civil Engineering programme is well organised however can be less structured to some extent. The induction was really good and the support line is there, they allow us a day release for college and provide us with a mentor. However, the training is always hard to find which could be improved.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Not a lot, to find training is very hard, the scheme I am currently on does not have an apprentice budget so getting training is always harder as there is not set budget for the scheme. however, the support is always provided and internal training is available but not always relevant to us

  • The employer provide 100% support at all times and ensure you are good. The employer provide as with a mentor who has previously been in the scheme who can help us settling in, and we can ask questions about the facilities and how to use them. They provide as with a SAP manager who approves our leaves and ensures we are settled and can also provide help. They are always willing to help and the placement managers are all very lovely and always have a smile.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • I would do background research on the scheme you are applying for and also find information about Transport for London. This shows you have background knowledge of the business and shows you are active and willing. Within the interview, I would advise not to panic as much, think of it as a talk with someone about a scheme and always think positive. They aren't there to scare you away, they just want to see your talent. Sell yourself and your commitment. Always engage with anyone you see in the assessment centre, always have a smile and look ready to learn and work. I would practise an interview with a friend or family and go on the Transport for London website for interview tips. Try your best and never give up.
