  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Quality Higher Apprentice. 3-4 month placements around the quality department which so far has involved the checking off parts coming into the business and verifying them on SAP. I interact and work with a range of functions on my daily basis whether it be the quality function itself, the shop floor staff or team leaders for a certain area of the boat. being part of the early careers population allows me to get involved in stretch projects which offer a range of activities different to my everyday tasks

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying a HNC at furness college. I have also been involved with measuring instrument training, Faro arm training and SAP training. whilst also developing my skills and knowledge within the quality function each day with my placement work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the teams I have worked with and find that they all have experience and know how to look after and work with apprentices. I am always kept busy and shown new things everyday which the rest of the team will explain in great detail and make sure I understand what it is we are doing. I enjoy each day of work as everyday is something different and a new challenge to overcome and learn from.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • At BAE I feel valued with the praise I receive from my placement manager, early careers team and stretch colleagues. I often feel valued as part of a team and always feel involved when working on tasks or stretch projects.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was well organised by the team who ran the stretch who started the previous year Support and training available from the EC team is plenty and a wide range. Quality is a new HA Scheme at BAE so they are still trying to figure out the best pathway for the apprentice but overall has so far been great.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Always feel well supported by my training provider and everyone within the team has a great attitude and wants you to get the best out of your apprenticeship. I know i can go to them with any issue/problems I may have and they will solve/help in anyway they can.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • there is a range of options if I were to need support from, between: the EC team, my PPOC, Mentor, Buddy and others that work within the business I know if I ever have any problems or need help with anything that I am well looked after

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • BAE offers one of the best packages in the local area if not the best for people my age. which easily covers living, travel, daily and social costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Not for local HAs more stuff for people moving to the area e.g. the Cumbria graduate network. Don't feel there is a lot of social events outside of work which allow you to socialise and get to know some of the other HAs/Grads/IPS

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Great package, well looked after and supported, not many other companies in the area can offer the experience, knowledge and opportunities that BAE do.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Be sure to have experience as part of working as a team and be able to talk about the roles that you took while working as a team. be sure to show you can work as part of team but not overpower the team.
