  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Job title: Quality Street Assistant Brand Manager Daily tasks: Managing projects, working with external agencies, pulling data on brand performance, managing and accurately forecasting the Marketing budget for the brand. I also work closely with other Apprentice's in the team bu inducting them into daily tasks and helping them understand what Marketing is. Projects: These include packaging changes or more extensive ones such as exploring different formats for our brand.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly challenged in this role and learn something everyday! Training I have been on includes budget management, project management and how to build up resilience. As well as this, as part of the scheme I am gaining a degree at Sheffield Hallam University graduating this year with a BA Hons Professional Business Practice.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Work: I have a job I absolutely love so feel extremely lucky. Team: The people at Nestle and in my team are so supportive and care about my development and progression. This encourages and motivates me further to want to achieve. Expectations: It's fair to say these have been exceeded! I have been able to work on projects I never thought I'd be able to be involved in.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • I feel appreciated within my team however recognition could be improved. Working at Nestle is so fast paced, sometimes we forget the amazing work we've done and get recognized for it. With it being such a pressured environment, it's easy to move on once you've completed a project but Nestle could encourage us to look back and be proud of ourselves. However saying this, I definitely feel valued and have extensive involvement in tasks and projects.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction: This is dependent on rotations- i.e. HR offer better inductions than Sales. The induction in to the business was extensive and definitely helped. Training: We get a fully funded degree so I do feel well trained and equipped! Support meetings: This depends on teams- I feel supported by my team and peers but the mentor program could be improved. Organised: It's obvious our scheme is extremely well organised- the weeks we're OOO and at University are set at the start of each academic year so we can manage workloads. An improvement would be to give us some time to complete our University work, as managing a full-time job and a dissertation is a little bit intense!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Sheffield Hallam are really supportive- they offer all the resources we need online and our tutors are generally responsive to our e-mails. It is made clear who our course leader is and who our student support officers are if we have any issues. Feedback on assignments can vary, but in the most part they are helpful with some even offering a phone call chat for further clarification.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There seems to be a lack of knowledge with line managers about what being at University involves which can be frustrating. However, the structure of our HR support and mentor support is clear and is up to us to use them. I would use my manager as more support than anyone else, but that is my personal preference. In total, I do feel supported but some issues I keep to myself as it can be easier.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It meets all the costs required for me to live, but since I live at home and don't have rent/bills to pay it's good pay. However if I was to move out, I think I would struggle to afford much. The scheme does offer pay rises every year based on performance so I would expect when I do move out that it should be enough to cover the costs to live along with social costs too.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There's always loads of opportunities outside of work. Nestle offer 2 voluntary days a year meaning you can go and volunteer in the community without taking holiday. With most people in the office having children and families, there aren't many clubs or classes that are run to get involved in. However, there are many activities inside of work which you can get involved in i.e. Safety Champion, Charity Champion just to name a few.

  • Yes

  • They're a great company to work for, offering lots of benefits and challenging work environments to keep you on your toes!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Just to be yourself- that's the best way to see if Nestle suits you and you suit Nestle. Take your time through the application process and don't rush into the online assessments- you want to be at your best! The assessment days may seem a little scary, but the environment they create is really friendly which helps you perform at your best. The interviews are never there to trip you up- more for you to demonstrate your strengths and experiences so make a note of what you want to get across in the interview beforehand.
