  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • i am an excleratae site manager on a site in Manchester, we are building 2 apartments blocks on the outskirts of the town centre. my day to day task is ensuring that apartments are to be ready by the required deadline at a high standard. this would involve speaking to sub contractors and ensuring that they get their work done and any snags can be completed. I would also completing site trackers to ensure that works are being carried out and also h+s reviews.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt more theory side of construction whilst and college and then more practical on site knowledge when working on site. I have also completed my sssts which has helped me develop better health and safety knowledge.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it allows me to learn stuff at college that I wouldn't have the chance to on site and vice versa.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by John Sisk & Sons?
  • I feel valued and am weighing up options of what to progress to once I am done and hope that I can continue to progress with Sisk.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like we could have more interaction and possibly do more courses, for example the excelerate engineers do workshops where they can develop and learn new skills which I feel like I would benefit from too. Also in terms of progression it would be good if we/I could know what is required before you can progress roles/pay so that you know what you can improve on before you can look at pay increases.

  • I have regular meetings with citb where we discuss how I am getting on and how I find college.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from them and feel like I can speak to any of the people above me comfortably to ask for advice or general conversation.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • not very well as having car, rent, saving for my own house and other bills to pay for doesn't leave too much money. this is why it would be good to know what is needed to allow for pay increase so that you know what you can improve on so you can progress.

  • often go on team nights out which benefits the team.

  • Yes

  • Looked after me well and believe it allows me/apprentices to progress within the company.
