  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • While i was in my sales role, my day to day job was fully reliant on having people send me questions like from NROC about promotions taking place within co op and i found myself waiting for work to come dependant on what people needed. However now i am in demand planning i have daily tasks to complete at certain times and my day has become very structured which i thoroughly enjoy. i feel i have more of an impact in the Neslte business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my neslte career i have developed many skills. At uni i am undergoing a qualification in excel which i am taking an exam for soon. I have learnt a lot of skills within communication and how to adapt my language to who i am talking to eg. The managers and my friends. I have taken part in a few courses about the nestle community itself which i found very usefull and also have some booked in the future for more skills based work. I have learnt about the importance of making emails consise and direct in order to gain the answers i need from people and to not waste time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme, it is an excellent scheme to be on and an invaluable opportunity to gain a degree and full time work at the same time. i have fit into my new team very well and have made some great connections within the team and within the whole of nestle including connections in the factory. From the open days i could tell neslte was a very friendly place to work and this has gone over my expectations and has made the trasisiton from school to work even easier than expected. I wouldnt change my decsison for the world.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • i feel very valued in my new team, my manager has been appreciative of all the new things i have picked up on quickly in my new role. I was recognised in my old team for being organised and completing tasks well ahead of the deadline. i have been involved in many tasks in my old role and helped my team with many projects. i have been recognised by my family an friends for all the work i do and balancing uni life and assignments as well.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • After the apprenticeship being running for 5 years the organisation is amazing. The assessment centre taught me so much about nestle and there are always so many new people within the business you never feel alone and there is always so much help available with any queries you may have. I have been trained in each role i have been in into how to do the daily tasks and use the reports. With the uni assignments we have flex days to take once a month which i use for my uni work and there is a lot of flexible working which enables me to balance work well. I have weekly meetings with my manager to check in that im doing ok. I organise my day well and have help with a spreadsheet i use to prioritise work. I understand the hierachy of the team and know how to adapt to each different person. My programme has been very well organised. Sales less than demand planning as the role is a lot more relaxed and i didnt have as much of an induciton plan but this is dependant on your line manager.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Now i am fully integrated into the business i dont have many catch ups with the trainging providers as my line manager provides all the guidance and knowledge i need to know for each role. We meet normally one day a week while im at uni which is helpful to have those checkins and compare to the other apprentices and to discuss any issues and how to over come them. The tutors are helpful in providing the knowledge we dont get from our line managers about the daily runnings of the business and how to initially adapt to different personalities within the company.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive a good amount of support from my line manager espeically now i am sending out important emails to all the managers of nestle. I have a lot of support around me as my team all sit together. My induction plan helps me to tick off things i need to know and people i need to meet in order to have a full understanding of my role. I know who i need to talk to about each problem i may have. People are always happy to help and no question is a silly question. My line manager has had many people before me so knows how to help and teach effectively. I love being able to comfortably ask questions as it helps me grow and develop quickly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At the moment i am still living at home so my only costs are food and travel (fuel) so my costs meet my needs more than enough, i have enough money to go out and treat myself and buy my team drinks occasionaly to say thank you. Where i live in ripon is relitively cheap to live in so i have enough money to live comfortably and enjoy my life outside of work as much as while im in work as well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are always events outside work like leaving dues etc where the team gets to go out for dinner and socialize outside the working environment. The apprentices also have many nights out to build friendships outside of work. I often go to school visits to talk about my job and my experiences to inspire other young children to make the same career path as me. i go to the gym everyday back where i live with my friends from home and do a lot of sports on a weekend like netball etc. It would be good if we could have a gym inside work like down in gatwick as i feel this would spur people on to get fit during the lunch hour as it is hard being motivated after a long day at work. When i wasnt at work i was in full time education so my life style was very similar to what it is now.

  • 9. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I continuously reccomend nestle to my friends as it is a once in a life time opportunity and a great scheme to be on. a lot of my friends are very jealous of the scheme as they realise how good my lifestyle is that i have as i have no uni fees to pay etc. Also neslte is a huge multinational company and a great place to work, it also has endless opportunities for the future and i feel i have plenty of place to grow within the business.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • If i was going to give anyone any advice it would to be yourself throughout the application as anyone can see through you if you are trying to impress. The application process may feel long but it is worth it, the questions are very based around yourself and what you have done like volunteering so this is very important. The assessment days arent something to fear as it is just a chance for nestle to get to meet you and to see how amazing you really are. Enjoy the day! The overall experience has been amazing, the only thing i found difficult is that the move from eduction to full time work is very different and hard to adapt too. you have to get used to creating your own work and generating your own deadlines for work which took me a while to get the hang of, this is the only adivce i can give that you dont really get mentioned when you join but everyone is in the same boat, you arent alone. The experience i have as an apprentice at neslte is truely amazing and i love coming to work everday to learn new things.
