  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a test and verification engineer in space imaging my role consists of resolving any engineering problems we have will the CCD devices we make in space imaging. My day to day tasks are to support the projects I'm on, this involves getting all the test prepared and completed so the devices are ready for delivery to the customer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my apprenticeship I have developed my self and my skills greatly, I have been given opportunity's to conduct presentations and run event to develop my confidence and organisation. I have also been given training in my job roles to develop my specialist knowledge in design techniques, material selection and how the CCD devices work. I am also about to finish my HNC Level 4 qualification, allowing my to go forward in my education to finalise my degree before I finish my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship, this is down to the teams I get to work with and how well it is run by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. My apprenticeship has exceeded my expectations due to the support given by everyone at Teledyne-e2v, as apprentices are a very valued resource across the business.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Teledyne/E2V?
  • As a apprentice I feel very valued, as everyone appreciates the effort you are putting in to complete the work to your highest standard. As a apprentice you get involved in important work, meaning if you complete it before the deadline it is very useful and beneficial top the company. Meaning you are as valued as the hole of the team and if you do something that really impresses someone, they can nominate you for a star award. From this you then get a voucher and recognition on the internal web page.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is very structured, you will start at Teledyne-e2v with a induction day and then you will go and complete your performing engineering operations (PEO) Level 2 for 5 months. During this course you will also start the HNC level 4, this is one day a week for 2 years. Once you have completed the PEO you will then spend 6 months rotating around the business, this will give experiences in different departments around the company. You will then choose a placement you want to do for a final job role and interview, if you get the job you will then start your final placement there. You will then finish your HNC, start the HND for a year and once that is complete you will finalise you degree at a UNI for 2 year before finishing the apprenticeship.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • All of the apprentices are supported equally by are manager, he is happy to help with any problems we are having at work or from home. This can be to give guidance or put support in place to ensure we are happy. He is always happy and has a open door policy, meaning if you have any concerns and he is free you can go and talk to him. This is what makes being a apprentice at Teldyne-e2v so enjoyable, as you know you have someone in your corner pushing you forward when needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Teledyne-e2v are very supportive of the apprenticeship programme, meaning every employee is happy to help a apprentice as apprentices are the future of the business. Meaning we get to run events to advertise the apprenticeship, this helps to develop the skill set needed to work in a engineering work place. As well as providing the training needed to give you the support and skills you need for your job role.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My package meets my cost very well as I still live at home with my parents, so I only need to pay for my travel costs and them fund any actives I want to complete outside of work.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of opportunities outside of work to get involved in some of these are the careers events, schools events, apprentice awards night and apprentice Christmas meal. You will also get the opportunity to get involved in the company bowling events, quiz nights and open days for your family to see what you do.

  • Yes

  • My apprenticeship has developed me and my skills to be a effective engineer, I could of found my Job that I'm loving with out it. As well as all of the benefits I have mentioned above.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teledyne/E2V?
  • Make sure you complete a covering letter that links to the job role you are applying for, as this is one of the first things used in the decision making process. If you are fortunate to get a invite to the assessment days make sure you keep interested, as this is something we look for and bring in anything engineering that you have completed before. As this is a very useful talking point.
