  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • . My role is Early Collections Customer Service Advisor. This role requires me to collect unpaid money from Eon’s customers. I communicate with customers to find out what has prevented them from paying within the time frame and to understand their financial ability to pay their bills. If customers are finding it difficult to pay, I am responsible for offering solutions to better help manage the arrears they have with us. Therefore my function is crucial to the financial success of Eon as well as helping customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills further as my job requires me to undertake appropriate communication with relevant personnel depending on the customers’ needs. I have also developed my listening and computer skills as when speaking to customers on the phone, I am required to write up notes in regards to what was discussed and what I have done. For example, if a customer complains about their bill and I resolve their complaint, I will make a note to say the customer did not understand their bill due to the given reason and I will note to say I have resolved their complaint.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. My work is very rewarding and my team are very helpful. We always work together to help each other out and we really are like one big E.on family. I am always learning new things about myself in my Job and I am growing continuously thanks to my supportive team and managers.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by E.ON?
  • I always feel valued at work. My manager always praises me through comment like “excellent work on that,” and always makes me and my team feel appreciated. We continuously get formal feedback and this is an really effective tool as it make me feel more integrated with the group as well as understanding how I can become even more better.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is really well structured. We have a series of in house training sessions throughout the year where we learn key aspects surrounding our job. We are then expected to use what we have learnt in the classroom in practice. This then leads us to our coursework assignments where we reflect about what we have done.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We receive a great deal of support throughout the programme. We have monthly meeting with our team leaders where we reflect on areas of strengths and development in our day to day work. We also have feedback sessions with out training provider where we discuss aspects of our written assignment and how to develop our ideas ready for our next assignment.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a great deal of support from our Employer. The HR team are fantastic with helping us with queries and are always approachable. My mentor plays a fantastic role in making me feel valued and helping me develop. I am often asking him for advice and reassurance and he always is there to help me with any difficulties I experience with the customers.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is great. I am able to meet my living costs which include my travel costs (buss pass for the year) and social costs fine! There are so many advantages to choosing to do an apprenticeship straight out of school because it does give you a good income whilst you learn, and the opportunity to avoid student debt.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • After work, I normally go to the gym. I sometimes go with some of my team members from work. It’s great to socialise after work hours and relax and unwind. The team sometimes goes out for special meals too and this is really great fun and a fantastic way to bond with people outside of work.

  • 9. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Eon is a very friendly and nurturing environment. It is a great place to come and learn new skills and develop yourself as a person. It is full of people who want to help you and it is a great route into a professional job. It is also one of the leading energy companies so it is great to work for such a swell established company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • My advice is to be yourself on the day. When asked about yourself, be honest as you need to remember that the assessors on the day are looking to see whether your character is suitable for their company. I also recommend you read around the company to see all the work it has done as it looks good if you know about the company you are applying to.
