  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I am working with the Technology portfolio team and am a project manager. I am managing a project with guidance from an experienced technical project manager. The project involves improving the use of meeting rooms which would be beneficial to facilities managed sites and aims to reduce costs on external meeting rooms.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved with communication skills including over the phone, email and face to face. I have also managed to build and develop my network and am engaging in meetings such as project kick-off meetings and speaking to third parties.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme because of the team who are very supportive but also the tasks I get assigned - I enjoy having responsibility over the project which I know will bring benefits to Severn Trent.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Severn Trent?
  • I feel valued by Severn Trent a lot - the CEO is aware of who I am and how I've represented the company at the House of Commons. I have also been recognised by some MPs and developed my network with external parties when being a project manager. I enjoy feeling like an equal, not 'just an apprentice'.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel it is structured well - internal training is brilliant and I have gained so much knowledge from this. However, sometimes I feel that the external training could be improved - tutors need to be more engaging and supportive.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel support given from BPP could be a little better - maybe this is because the training is virtual? I feel it'd be much better for them to ensure students fully understand the work and tasks before handing out formative and summative assessments.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support from my employers as and when needed. In the first instance, I would report any issues and bring up any concerns with my line manager. I also know the rest of the team are able to support me with any issues I have regarding work, study or personal life. I am also aware that the HR team are available if I have any other concerns including if in the rare case I'm not satisfied with my job and other policies etc.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For me personally, I feel that the salary is okay. I live local to STC (I live in Coventry) so for me, location is perfect!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have 'Community Champions' as volunteer days and other special events (being invited to the House of Commons to represent Severn Trent apprentices and meeting MPs and speaking to them about our experiences).

  • 9. Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend Severn Trent because personally, I feel that I am well looked after and supported. I also feel many I've come across are approachable and are willing to point you in the right direction. It is also a great atmosphere knowing that 'customers are at the heart of what we do'.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
  • I would say always come prepared and if you have a choice of offers to choose from different employers, choose Severn Trent! Only thing I would have preferred to be told was BPP timetables and dates. Also, possibly a shorter induction and more relevant to job role.
