  • Apprentice Quantity Surveyor - Carry out subcontract payments, listen in and participate in meetings. Help collate and analyse costs.

  • I have learnt many new skills, I am much better with excel and on the phone. My analytical and comparison skills are also vastly improved.

  • I enjoy going to work every day and look forward to new tasks and challenges.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAM?
  • Fairly well valued, when on site opinions are listened to and people really take care of you.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Fairly well organised, some things have deteriorated but thats due to the handover of the programme to the new manager. This is out of their control and will improve with time though.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive as much support as I need, however most of us are fairly independent and solve problems by ourselves.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provides as much support as I need, there are many people in the company who are willing to help and listen to any problems I may have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Most costs are well covered and the salary is good compared to traditional apprenticeship wages. BAM get a lot of value from the Apprentices and we are always learning and growing as employees. Some costs could be better met, such as mileage, car and living away costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are some opportunities outside of work but a lot seem to be focused onto the larger, higher profile projects/sites.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a well developed and supportive company with a good profile and some great employees.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be yourself and be prepared to show independence and resourcefulness. Living away from home and managing yourself is crucial to a career within BAM Nuttall.
