My job title is Field Service Engineer. On a day to day basis my job consists of fixing/maintaining and the on-site installation of a wide variety of office and large format printers. My role as well as technical is also very customer orientated with loads of customer interaction, from phoning ahead before going to a job, to being on site. Interaction within the business takes place on a day to day basis. This can consist of phoning other engineers for help or advice, and reporting administration work to your manager or to the relative part of the business.
I have developed alot of new skills with Canon as well as improved the skills I already had. Training internally has happened alot with new products that are released, this can be at a training centre or over Canon`s online e-learning portal. This has given me alot of technical skills in both electrical and mechanical, as well as IT and network skills. Personally Canon has helped me to develop my customer interaction skills and business skills through the administritive work that has to be carried out on a day to day basis.
The work is very interesting and different every day, with new challenges and surroundings. Allthough my role is working alone the majority of the time, everyone works closely as a team sharing solutions and technical knowledge.
Canon UK has not taken on apprentices for a long time therefore i felt humbled and proud to have been given the opportunity. I was awarded my certificate from the company director himself and was taken for a fantastic lunch.
The induction was professional but laid back, and was very enjoyable and fun. My college based apprenticeship training was excellent and well organised. There was massive support from the college and Canon with countless people who could help and were willing to help.
To be honest not alot atall. I dont need any support from the training provider only Canon, which I receive.
The support I receive from Canon is amazing. Everyone is willing to help and share advice when needed. Technical support is available through Canons online database and manuals. I really couldnt ask for more.
My salary package meets my costs brilliantly. A big bonus for me is the option to use the company car for personal use. I do not have my own car so this is a fantastic perk. Their is massive opportunity for me to increase my salary by increasing my portfolio of printers I am trained on within Canon.
Every year their is a Team lunch where everybody gets together which is brilliant. Canon hold loads of events at the Canon UK Headquarters which is in London so if you are willing to travel then they are willing to accomodate you.
Yes
Canon is a fantastic company to work for, they look after you. It is a massive company with opportunities to branch out into different sectors of the business which they will support you in doing every step of the way.
The advice I would give to others applying to Canon Uk would be to learn the background and history of the company. Also show enthusiasm, interest and the willingness to develop at all stages of the application process.
