  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My laboratory (chemistry) apprenticeship with GSK involves me working within the analytical department, using the technique of Liquid Chromatography/ Mass spectrometry (LC/MS) to identify and determine the purity of compounds produced by other chemists within GSK. This data is then used to progress the compounds further in the drug development process. To complete this work, I work closely with a group of 12 others as well as many chemists in other departments.

  • I have learnt a great deal about the technique of LC/MS. But, further than this, I have also learnt a lot of general skills, for example, time and project management and working professionally within a team of individuals. In addition to this I am working towards a foundation degree in Chemical Science which is not only helping improve my knowledge of Chemistry but also Health and Safety and Business improvement.
