  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role as an apprentice within Wealth management involves supporting CA's & CAA's. This can involve performing background checks on new potential clients & existing clients. I also have to prepare account opening forms for the CA's to complete when onboarding new clients. One other main task is preparing annual review packs which involves printing and binding client valuation statement. I currently work for a regional team within wealth management, so although I am based in the main London office our CA's are based offsite and this requires clear communication on the phone rather than in person.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed the first exam of the IOC qualification and I am currently studying towards the second exam for the IOC. I have attended multiple external training courses held by Fitch learning, although these were good sessions to attend I do not feel they developed my skills very much.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel that the work I am doing does not give me a great deal of responsibility and that I could complete much more challenging tasks. The team I work in is enjoyable as I get to travel to other regional offices to meet other regional employees at UBS. The company culture is brilliant and I feel like everyone at UBS is very welcoming and willing to help you in anyway that they can. I thought the programme would be more challenging in regards to the work difficulty and workload. I am still enjoying it though.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by UBS?
  • Yes I do feel valued within my team for the tasks that I do currently perform. If I was able to do more challenging tasks that we are currently not allowed to perform as apprentices then I feel I would be even further valued within my team. Overall UBS treats its apprentices well with many opportunities within the bank, we are also treated as full employments which makes you feel valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a very good & lengthy induction with all apprentices for all the different programmes on our first week of joining. After this we had specific training for our roles over the period of 2-3 weeks. Once we had completed that we went on an offsite trip to the lake district to bond as a group of apprentices. We have so much support in regards to within UBS & outside of UBS. The support of our junior talent team has been extremely good and I don't think it could've been organied better.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider comes in and does all of our training within our London offices which is really useful as we don't have to go elsewhere for training. All of our study material is also on an online portal which is really useful as we can study wh9ilst travelling to/from work which saves time. We are always able to contact a tutor via email if we are unsure/stuck on something in particular.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We all have our own mentor within the business who we have regular catch ups with to discuss our current roles and how we would like to progress. We also work closely with the Junior talent team who organize all of our training and exam courses. There is a training and competency team that arrange all of our mandatory training. I feel like we have a high level of support at UBS.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It means that I still have a good amount of money left after deducting travel costs and daily costs e.g. lunches etc. Not much more detail I can go into on this apart from that I think the salary/package is competitive in the apprenticeship world. I am able to afford to treat myself & go out most weekends for drinks with colleagues and friends also.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have been able to help out with multiple apprentice insight events, these include events held at our building in London and events held at sixth forms/ colleges to encourage people to join the next years apprenticeship scheme. There are many clubs/societies that are available for us to get involved in.

  • 9. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think it is a brilliant company to work for as a whole. Also, the opportunities that will be available to us once completing the apprenticeship is a great appeal as the apprenticeship acts as a foot in the door to a large investment & private bank which are difficult to get into.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • Make sure that you have done your research on the industry as a whole and research on UBS as you will be asked about it at interview. Try and make the interview as much as a conversatio0n as possible as that is what the interviewer will want. Have a bank of questions that you want to ask at the end/or during the interview to ensure that UBS is the right fit for you.
