Apprentice Review

My job role on a daily basis includes supervision, briefings, providing the correct health and safety personal protection to the general operatives who need this protection to carry out the task. I will visit different areas of project to ensure the work carried out is up to a great standard.

Over the course of the past five years, I have made an effort to develop my skills and experience in numerous different ways. I have matured as an individual and my experience of working with others – both colleagues and customers – has contributed a lot to my interpersonal skills. I am also better able to see the bigger picture and how my role relates to the overall goals of the organisation. Having built up a broad range of experience, I am now much more productive in my role – and much better equipped to handle unusual or difficult situations

I enjoy the programme that I’m on as it gives me the opportunity to be involved with many opportunities which I would have not normally had. Also working with many different types of people from all different back grounds and trades has given me a better knowledge of what can be achieved

I believe that I do feel valued by John Sisk & Sons. They provide me with great training which is essential to my learning development. They also provide me with a mentor who is able to assist me with any problems that I may have on my project. I’m also finding that college course is also helping progress towards my level 3.

I believe that my programme is well put together with college and work, although I find that work can have an effect on my college work as the working hours are long. If college work is given to use to complete whilst at work it can be pretty difficult to allocate time due to personal circumstances.

I believe that I receive sufficient support from my training provider which is CITB. The college course is well put together and the staff / tutors are always happy to help when a problem occurs. The college is also happy to assist when you have any work problems such as bullying.

I believe that I receive enough support to help me develop and to also to help me progress within the company. New challenges and situations always create solutions which I take to the next project. I believe that new opportunities are important as they give you a larger view on the construction industry.

As a trainee on site and currently working away from home I don’t believe that the salary / package does not meet my costs. Having to pay extra for such this as gym’s wear and tear on your car which is due to driving 400 plus miles a week can cause problems.

I don’t believe that there is many opportunities outside of work. There nothing clear about different paths or routes to take. It would be nice to have some assistance on a career path witch you want to follow e.g., engineering, management, health and safety.

I would like to encourage people to check out John Sisk & Son’s. I’m not sure how often they advertise job roles but they do look like a secure company to work with. The training they provide is great and they also give the opportunity to perform at a higher level.

I would suggest having a well put together CV and have a clear path for the future as John Sisk & Son is a management company. They should also be prepared to work away from home which can leave many people un-easy and out of there comfort zone when changing environments
