  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was given multiple talks on the different sectors within Pinsent Masons and was assigned two sectors for the week; banking and employment. I followed what a trainee solicitor would do on a day to day basis and helped out with different pieces of work like looking at cases and listening in to calls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes my confidence has grown massively since completely my work experience as I had to communicate with lots of new people. Working as a team with the other work experience students enabled me to develop those skills as well as working independently at my desk. I took on the role as a leader in many tasks, speaking in front of the other students and the solicitors.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. We had an itinerary for the week which was packed full of different activities to get us working together which made each day exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what different tasks were lined up for us. Getting to go to court on the Friday was a bonus!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Lots of support, they were always happy to answer any questions I had or if I was struggling with the assigned work. I made a great friendship with them and they made my experience a lot more enjoyable due to their openness and friendliness! They answered all my questions which gave me a bigger knowledge of what a day in a law firm is like.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • An adequate amount of support, considering they too had work to be doing I was really pleased with the time they took to show me how to do things. We were given a tour around the office which was really interesting as we got to see what kind of facilities Pinsent Masons had and the different sections to the office.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I’m not sure what this means but Pinsent Masons far exceeded my expectations. The whole experience overall was so insightful and it has completely made up my decision to study law at university. I cannot wait to work in a law firm and undertake the work that my trainee did.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Since completing my work experience, I hope to also partake in the Summer work experience that is offered by Pinsent Masons as this will enable me to further develop my skills. Since completely my experience I have been able to demonstrate my skills in debating which I have flourished in. These are skills I will have for life.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere was brilliant and I made friends for life. I had the best week learning about how a law firm works and I really felt part of the team. I would recommend this to anyone because it further showed me that studying law is what I want to do and I fitted in really well. It is a great experience to gain your social skills by communicating with new people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Always stay motivated and willing to do any work given to you. Ask lots of questions because it’s good to find out as much as you can! Always take a notebook to write down important things the trainees say. This is one thing I did and I still reflect on it when I need to. Listen when given instructions but always make sure to ask questions, everyone is very friendly and open to helping you! And most of all, enjoy it!
