  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is an Insurance Practioner. My daily tasks include producing essential documentation for my collegues further use and constantly interacting with them in order to keep up-to-date with the current status of contracts. On a daily basis i email/ have contact with clients, underwriters and our overseas offices. My main responsibilites are to communicate with my team, keep track of my contracts and complete documentation within regulatory requirements. I treat all of my contracts as a project to develop and improve on a daily basis whether it be in its progression or its clairty.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed my industry recognised exams (Certificate in Insurance) which is part of the Apprenticeship Programme. You receive training for these exams with an external training company. Aon has an internal learning scheme called 'Aon University' which has courses you have to complete regularly such as 'Money Laundering' which teaches you about how to detect it, how to report it and the consquences of commnitting it. I have developed my skills in being able to write professional emails as they are totally different to how you would write an essay in school. I have developed my people skils by having to constantly interact with colleagues and clients as well as attending networking events. I have become more mature ans professional since starting my APprenticeship in 2016.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my job. The team i work with is great, very helpful and very friendly. If I am ever stuck with anything i do not hesitate to ask as I know someone will be willing to help me. Aon is a great company to work for with room for progression and constant opportunities arising. Working in this evironemnt and in this role exceed my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • I feels very appreciated at Aon and within my team. My manger gives me positive feedback with reviews all the time and we have a great relationship. This year in particular I was taken to lunch by a colleague as a thank you for all the help i provided during our busy period before Christmas. I get involved in tasks/projects all the time, for example this year we had a huge change in the documentations we produce and had weekly meetings to discuss this.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Apprenticeship Programme is very well organised. There is an induction period at the beginning where all apprentices go to a conference centre for 2 weeks and learn the ways of the business; such as how to handle different types of personanlities in the workplace. We are given training thorughout our apprenticeship, especially for our exams in the first year. There is also contact support provided by the Early Caeers team at Aon.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Throughout my exams, I recieved a lot of support especially as i failed one of my exams and had to re-sit it. I had revision conference calls to discuss anything I was struggling with as well as being able to contact the provider anytime via email. I wouldnt of been able to pass my exam without this help.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support from my employer constantly; from my manager in my role to be competent and from the HR Team who constantly checked on how i studying when i failed my exam. Support is easily accessible with the Early Careers team on hand to reply to issues via email, telephone or even face-to-face meetings.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At the beginning on my apprenticeship my salary covered my costs. However, as I have got older and now have more things to pay for it is proving to being difficult to pay for regular outgoings as well as having extra money for personal entertainment. However, this is a learning curve of how to buget my money and encourages me to save my money, not waste it. Travel is quite expense but Aon provides a travel loan which you pay back, interest free.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Aon provides a variety of opportunites outside of work with company events and activities. My team in particular has a next generation team where we have regaular networking events to get to know other colleagues from other companies in the industry. Aon various sports teams you can get involved with such as football and netball. There is also a chance to volunteer especially in trying to raise money for Aon's chosen charities. Before working at Aon I attended Sixth Form to study for my A Levels.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Becuase they offer great opportunites and room for development allowing you to progress in your career, they have very friendly and helpful colleagues who cant wait to help you and a very diverse and positive culture.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • The application process was uploading your CV online and asking a few questions about youself. Then, you could be called in for an assessment day where you work in a team to show your team working skills, people skill and leadership skills. Then, you could be invitied back for further interviews with particular teams who may want to employ you. Once accepted, you will be welcomed to an induction day where you get shown around the building and its facilities. One thing I was told but didnt quite understand until i started working is that the transition from school to work is very difficult but it doesnt take long to get used to.
