  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at the moment is a general customer team member with aspects of my team leader role as well. I have been working mainly on the shop floor and tills but have also been competing stock counts and gap scans as well as date checking and reductions. It is a varied role and there is lots to do and different things to do everyday.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to do a gap scan and learnt a lot more about stock counts and why they are important to the company. I have also learnt alot more about the coop its self and things they do within the community to help the surrounding area and of all the beneficial programs they have in place.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program and find that it is very interesting to learn about the running if the business and everything involved in it. I also like how easily I for in with everyone in my work place and how welcoming everyone was.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Co-op?
  • I feel very valued and I know that when I do a good job I will be recognised for it. Reviews are frequent so you know that you will be kept on track with your performance.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel there could be a bit more structure to the programs because at first I didn't know what I suppose to be learning and when I was suppose to be learning it. I also feel that as a new apprentice I didn't get enough support at first which was quite daunting.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel you receive not enough support from the training provider as I have only heard from them a couple of times during the start of my apprenticeship. I feel that the process of what is going to happen needs to be made more clear before you start the program.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support on a daily basis but again I feel the structure needs to be made more clear and the time scales in which they expect things to be done. It is quite confusing when you first start not knowing what you are suppose to be doing or learning.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is fine for my financial needs at the minute. The only thing I would say is that I feel.the coop should fund travel costs upfront for if you are having to travel far to complete necessary things for the apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I haven't yet heard of any opportunities out side of work. I have heard of opportunities helping places outside of work such as the local church and community centre.

  • 9. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great positive company to work for and everyone very inviting and welcoming when you first start. You don't feel like the newbie for long once you start.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • I would say to make sure that you research the role you are applying for beforehand to give you an idea of what may be needed from you once you start and to make sure you are comfortable with the role.
