  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My apprenticeship is as a Civil Engineering Apprentice. I am currently working on a railway bridge which is being repaired and re-painted. The daily tasks vary widely from surveying and inspections on site to dealing with paperwork or using CAD in the office. I also have responsibilities such as briefings and inductions.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently gaining a Level 3 BTEC subsidiary diploma. I will also be going onto gain a BTEC level 5 diploma and a level 5 NVQ. Bam also send me on various training courses and give me e-learning to improve skills. I have gained various skills about being the workplace and the actual details of certain jobs I will have to do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Everyone I have met and worked with has been helpful and friendly. The work I do is also enjoyable.

  • Feel valued from my manager and colleagues. Everyone also offers lots of support to me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured as there is a clear plan of what is being done and when. Information is also easily accessible to find things about the programme out.

  • Lots of support is available from everybody.

  • The salary is competitive and all expenses being paid as well as travel being provided is also very helpful.

  • The company offers various social events such as meals out. There is also opportunity available for sports such as football.

  • Yes

  • Can gained lots of workplace knowledge and experience. Can gain knowledge and qualifications in college. Can earn money. Can meet lots of new people and visit lots of new places.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be enthusiastic about wanting the apprenticeship. Don't worry about things
