1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am a trainee within the outsourcing department, my daily tasks include advising clients in the best ways to present their accounts and to help them understand the way bookkeeping can be done to most benefit their company. My daily interactions internally include speaking to my colleagues asking for help and sometimes even helping them with problems that I have faced before.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
So far I have passed all of my exams for AAT level 3, and have completed skills workshops which were there to show me how to best manage my time and work load so that I can be as efficient as possible.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I am enjoying the programme that I am on very much so as Moore Stephens as a company are so welcoming and understanding when you first join. They all exceeded my expectations of being welcoming and really helping me to fit in well to my role and to be there on hand when I needed help, no matter what the problem is there is always someone to be there to help.
4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
I feel very valued by Moore Stephens, this is because every piece of work that I complete I receive feedback from any senior member of staff that is reviewing it. I have also been involved in work that requires me to travel over the UK with another member of staff so that I can help to get that work done.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
The programme that I am currently on is very well structured. This is because within the first week and a half the new trainees weren't in the office straight away but instead did some internal induction to the type of work that we may be exposed to within the first couple of days. As I continue on through the programme I have regular meetings and catch ups with my manager and a senior that is mentoring me to see if there are any issues and to ensure I am on the right track.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I receive a lot of support from my training provider as we have classroom courses and at the start/end of those their phone number, email and mobile number is given out so that we can get in touch with them at any time if we needed to.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I receive a lot of support from my manager which is shown in the regular catch ups that we have and the constant help and feedback that I receive. Although you may not see HR all the time it is reassuring to know that they are always an email away to help with anything if you should need it.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
My salary more than enough meets my costs. This is especially because my travel costs are almost a 1/4 of the pay that I receive every month.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
Yes there are loads of opportunities outside of work such as taking part in corporate charity events that the charity committee arrange. Also there is a department football team which is available to join and the company runs yogo sessions twice a week which is also open for any one to go to.
9. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
The atmosphere at Moore Stephens is nothing like you would find in other big companies as everyone there is so welcoming and it s a brilliant environment to be in every day.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Not to worry about your qualifications matching the role that you're applying for, especially as a new starter because Moore Stephens cares more about your personality and attitude than anything else.
