  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day is highly varied at the BBC. My role regularly includes operating cameras, lighting sets, editing news packages and going out with the crew.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During this apprenticeship I have learnt a lot of new skills in every role I do. For example, I can now shoot and edit a news package from start to finish.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme as I learn new things constantly, and every day is extremely varied which keeps it interesting and fresh.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BBC?
  • The BBC supports me in day-to-day work life and there is always someone to talk to if I am struggling or have an issue I want to raise.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Considering that I was the first intake on my apprenticeship. The programme has been very well organised to ensure that we learn a lot and get taught by the best at placement.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The college training provider does give us support, yet due to the fact that our college is quite a distance from our placement bases it does sometimes present a challenge.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My managers provide me with a lot of support both at work and college. Every single one of my colleagues at work is always happy to help, and I can ask questions without the fear of getting a bad reply.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • In relation to other apprenticeship salaries it is quite decent. Although in comparison to a working wage it isn't great, but it's enough to get by.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • This varies very much due to placement location, but for me there have been voluntary opportunities that have furthered my learning.

  • 9. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a corporation that is known across the world which provides the best training of any media service. The workplace is a happy place and there are many job opportunities once you're in.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Make sure to be yourself in interviews and applications! They are looking for someone with personality who is also polite and hard working.
