  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently a senior associate in the assurance department of PwC. My day to day involves a lot of travelling as we mostly work from the client's office. Different areas of the financial statement are assigned to all members of the team to audit. As I am now responsible for junior members of the team, I ensure they receive coaching on the areas they are assigned and I also receive coaching from people above me. There is a lot of emphasis on teamwork and forming networks and relationships within the team and with the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the course of my 3 placements with the firm and now having joined full time, my knowledge of accounting/audit has vastly improved. I am so much more confident when talking to the client as from early on I got exposure to very senior members of the client's team such as the Financial Director/Controller. This pushed me to be grounded in the knowledge of the accounts, learn first hand about a wide range of industries and gain additional knowledge from seasoned people in the field.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed meeting a wide range of young people who work hard and play hard. My office in particular organises a lot of social events to help balance how busy certain seasons are. While at University, it was also great to be surrounded by people who were working towards the same goal as I was. It was a great place to be for motivation, encouragement and just all round fun.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • I have to say that I do not feel as valued as I feel I should be. I know there are times when the company makes an effort but I feel that more of an effort should be made in terms of overtime pay (which do not apply to senior associates and above).
