I am an broadcast engineer apprentice. For half the year we are at university, to study for our degree in Broadcast Engineering. For the other half, we work for broadcasting companies, part of the BBC and external, to learn work place skills
Yes I have. At university I learnt about cameras, computers, audio and engineering maths. I have started to learn coding languages too. At work, I am learning more practical skills, such as fixing sound desks and other broadcasting equipment.
The work is new and interesting every day. The work team is very helpful and welcoming. The university group I am with are all very nice and fun. The culture of the company is very accepting and relaxed.
I feel valued because I am included in on call fixes and the team at New Broadcasting House has been very welcoming and helpful when explaining how technical equipment works. The managers are also very nice and treat everyone well.
The structure of the programme is very organised. The timetable is planned out in advance. A problem however is not knowing the specifics of where your next job is going to be.
We receive regular emails with helpful information. The managers always respond quickly to queries or difficulty that apprentices have.
The employer is also very supportive. The company has a mental health awareness programme as well.
Quite well as the London weighting provides more money for rent and food as prices are higher in London.
There are company events on but I think they could be better advertised using email rather than social media as I use email mainly for work and work events.
Yes
It is a very welcoming company with nice atmosphere. The people are very helpful and friendly. Also the quality of output is good so you are proud to work there
Be enthusiastic and friendly and people will want to help you succeed.
