  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is assistant accountant and I work in the regulatory reporting team. My daily tasks include a market risk check to ensure that our reporting systems are materially in-line. I work alongside a team of 10 people onshore and 5 people offshore. I am currently working on a presentation to my team that outlines one of the bank's products and how we treat them, this will be given to offshore to provide for new joiners.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme because the company culture is one of inclusion and every member of staff that I work with shows this in abundance. Everyone has been very welcoming from day one.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by UBS?
  • Very valued, many of my colleagues have put precious time aside to spend with me - there is a real understanding that apprentices are the way forward.

    9/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is the first year of finance apprentices so there have definitely been teething problems, however the bank seems keen to ask for our feedback to improve the programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support has been adequate, we were thrown into the deep end straight to advanced bookkeeping without any basic knowledge. However the provider did put one extra session on to help us learn the advanced bookkeeping at a slower rate. One issue I have found was that there was not much support for those who had to resit exams.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from UBS has been good, we have been given a day off every month to study and they have been very understanding with exam retakes. My colleagues have been eager to help me with my studies, always available if I have any questions.

    7/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is very good for my age/experience. It is enough to cover my costs.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are regular finance events (quarterly) and an abundance of voluntary opportunities.

    10/10

  • 9. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere and people of the bank are what makes the programme worth while, everyone is extremely helpful and welcoming.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • In preparation for the interviews, do some research into UBS' history and the business area that you have applied for.
