I am a level 6 legal apprentice. Currently, my role includes providing legal and administrative support pursuant to the acquisition of distribution rights in television programmes. This includes providing legal in-house legal services such as drafting contracts, reviewing contracts in order to provide information to enquiring areas of the business (the client) and liaising with external parties pursuant to contracting.
I have learnt how to read commercial contracts, conduct legal research, and draft commercial contracts.
I enjoy my programme to a great degree. I love the work environment and culture fostered by the BBC and its subsidiary where I currently work, BBC Worldwide. I am very grateful for the excellent support services made available and the collegiate atmosphere within which I work. I am particularly thankful for the friendliness and openness of my colleagues. On the programme side, I particularly enjoy the exposure to different areas of the business that I have enjoyed. Since staring in 2014, I have worked in employment law, distribution, acquisition, commissioning, information rights and corporate law.
I feel very valued by the BBC.
On the job side, the programme is very well organised. However, the academic side leaves much to be desired. The academic side is handled by CILEx Law School and it must be said that they are not particularly well organised. Although staff are always available to answer questions, the structure of the programme is sometimes confusing and does not seem particularly well tailored to in-house apprentices.
I receive good support from my training provider in the form of an assigned assessor, who monitors my progress and development, a tutor for every course I have to sit during the programme, regular webinars, and occasional workshops.
My employer provides me with a great deal of support including, regular professional training.
I can't complain.
I have not really taken advantage of them, but there are many opportunities outside of work including social networking events and classes at a discounted rate - sports classes, language classes, and gym classes. There are also employment perks that cover things like phone tariffs, dental plants, utilities, etc.
