  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working in Robotics and have been running robots to find where the breaks within them and recording this information on Data sheets. Also since I began at UBS I have been set weekly tasks to enable me to build on my excel and PowerPoint skills which will therefore help with my career in the future.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have done many trainings throughout my time at UBS including many to do with the principles of the bank. Also I have found that the beginning of this apprenticeship has been very good as the Banks culture has really shown me how to be as an individual and how to act around different people. I would say this is a fundamental life skill to be in the world of work. In addition to this I have done excel courses and learnt many skills like complicated vlookups and also learnt more simple shortcuts to enable my tasks to be one quicker

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have been on my apprenticeship for nearly 6 months now and I look forward to coming into work every morning because I enjoy what I do so much.UBS has taken us on and helped us in every way they possibly can and also with studying we have been fully supported and are given an hour a week to study and also go to college in week blocks to learn the content for our exams.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by UBS?
  • I feel that we are valued to a certain extent however we have come straight from college into the world of work so therefore it take time to adjust and pick up the skills that we need to know. As a result of this there are some limits to what we can do and therefore how we are valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • UBS has taken on Finance apprentices for the first time this year and therefore some areas of the program need improving. However overall I feel that the program is well structured and all that we have been through so far for example training has helped us to develop in the areas we work in.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider is Kaplan and to be honest we have had a few issues as I feel they are good but still have some areas of weakness. For example the teaching is done in weekly blocks and then this means we have a huge amount to take in and have a mock at the end of that week. I feel that this isn't helpful as not many people know the content by this point. Also there needs to be more contact between UBS and Kaplan as there have been a few problems with the areas people have been put into as they are not to do with accounting and therefore when it goes to submitting evidence, they have nothing to submit for the Apprenticeship.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have received a lot of support from our line managers and I appreciate this a lot as they have both helped us to build up our careers as well as helping us with our studies. Also many people within the company have helped us with anything we need help with and overall I would say that the people we work with here at UBS are very welcoming and eager to help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am very happy with the salary we get and even with me travelling from Brighton it covers the travel costs with enough to spear. Most people would worry about the apprenticeship location as it is in an expensive area however we all have oyster cards through our AAT provider so therefore we get 1/3 off the train fares.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Within UBS there are many events going on outside of work and we are given 2 days where we can go and volunteer. In addition many networks within the company have events that we can go to which enable us to make connections across the bank. I n addition there are sporting events that go on mostly in summer for example in finance there was a rounder's game.

  • 9. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The overall program is very good and has allowed me to develop many skills within all areas. Also since being here I have become much more confident and have learnt to try speak up when I don't know the answer or need something explaining. I would recommend this apprenticeship program to anyone that is keen to work and ready to develop there career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • If you are looking to apply for UBS make sure that you are keen to learn and eager to do well. Also research the company and know facts and figures about it. In addition have examples of things you have done in the past for example volunteering or past jobs that will give you skills that will help you to develop in the work environment.
