  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • When starting my role, I spent the first few weeks learning all about the technical aspects of film as well as the process content takes to get rectified (my job role is to aid my manager with getting content fixed and redelivered to broadcasters, in short). I also spent lots of time with every member in my team learning bespoke software and the process of delivering content. As my knowledge, improved I then created a document (using excel) to track issues with TV/Film whilst continuing my studies of a Technical nature. After time, I started to feedback to the broadcasters with my manager and get content fixed by the correct teams (different teams fix different issues). I also improved my documents and helped others with their issues in the office. I've now helped in creating workflows (through SharePoint) which is now currently used in the company as well as running events in emerging technology (Virtual reality) alongside another apprentice and intern. No day is the same and the challenges my team faces are infinite which is an element I love.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When starting I believe I had a great knowledge in audio but not "picture" I can now say I have a mildly good knowledge in the technical side of film. I have also learnt how to program using code within excel which was un-renowned to me. I wish to continue exploring the world of film and increasing my technical knowledge for all things computer related As well as technical skills, I have learnt many social skills and have managed to overcome social difficulties I faced due to mental disorders. The colleagues I work with have really made a stamp on my life and aided me in becoming a happier, wiser and better person.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the Warner side, everything runs perfectly however I cannot help but criticise my training provider as it was a battle at the beginning to even understand what I was supposed to do with them. I have had incorrect dates for tests/workshops and Excessive workloads, in which the task would require me to constantly repeat myself. locating the work itself was also a task as there are multiple documents and websites needed to see what is being asked. For one task, you need two word documents a website and a PowerPoint. This is just to see how to word the document being asked. The book the course is based on would state facts like Global warming is a myth and we don’t know why the forest are depleting. (the choice of words I have used do not reflect the book 100% but are the jist) I found myself helping other apprentices on my course as everybody was in the same boat but due to my persistent nature finally worked out how to find everything and then I relayed to my friends and colleagues. more could be said for this however I feel like this sum it up enough.

  • I rarely talk to my provider other to receive my new tasks or if they come to visit. I have enjoyed a few of their courses and some of the staff at the providers are lovely.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Every member of my team has helped me in learning new aspects to the job role. The company has also given us personal training as well as classes for every employee who wishes to learn a little bit more about the work processes. I also suffered from illness and my employer was nothing but supportive. giving me time of to have my operation and to recover and also putting in place things to help me get back into work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Realistically coming in at the bottom I was not expecting or believe I deserve to earn good money. From a life standpoint, if I was paying rent and bills I would not be able to live and would probably be on the street within a month. The apprentice wage that Warner offer is amazing in comparison to other companies (As I know my brother was paid about 4 pound a day). It would be difficult to live in London on this wage without the support of family and friends.
