  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm an engineering apprentice that on a day to day has 4 lessons and three breaks spending Monday and Thursday afternoons in the workshop on Wednesday afternoons we participate in in enrichment projects were we work in close ties with the graduates in order to complete our project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have developed many skills but mostly gathered a vast amount of knowledge on all engineering aspects of my job also along side my course I am completing a level 2 functional skills course which is allowing me to expand my abilities when writing letters and such.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme greatly my team is great and the tutor staff are great the course is way different to how I expected but in a positive way, so many people going to college have told me they are unhappy with their course were as I'm perfectly happy here.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Dstl?
  • I feel greatly valued by dstl my education seems like one of their top priorities as they are really personalising all my education towards me and help me in all the ways they can really catering everything to me in order for me to perform the in the best way possible

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • very well organised you never feel overwhelmed by everything and the tutors are always with you and help you. The lesson structure is very great all of our lessons are in great order in a regular pattern so you know what your doing and what to prepare for.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive loads of support from my training provider from funding my functional skills to identifying a problem and fixing it because they identified that I need extra time in exams

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • loads of support I never have to worry about any thing because they take care of everything and even my superiors are great they offer support with what ever I need

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Coming straight out of school and still living at home my salary is amazing and allow me to save a lot from my car putting away 300 a month and other expenses such as travel and foods by the end of all expenses I still have a pretty large sum for luxuries.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are loads of opportunities out side of work my training provider has a sub section that solely focus on out of work activities that bond the team for examples they do meals and activities such as paintball which are great to get to know more people

  • Yes

  • Its and absolutely amazing experience which doesn't just kick-start you career is catapults you into the next stage of your career allowing you to connect with so many people that are amazing at what they do


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dstl?
  • When applying be completely honest and outgoing they love people with personality and don't sweat it too much they make every stage so comfortable I was so nervous for my interview but there was no need as they really made me feel comfortable
