  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Apprentice Quantity Surveyor. My daily job roles include visits to site to collect information on work completed then using this information to log in excel. Taking information from different sub-contractors and direct staff bonus sheets and including this into the spread sheet. Monitoring and approving sub-contractor payments through my own measures on site. Organising appointments with tenants for a kitchen design to take place and once it is completed using the kitchen design to collate information on the property. Help prepare a application for payment from the client. I interact with all the site staff including site manager, foreman, liaison officer and labourers. Other external interactions are through sub-contractors, the client and tenants.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have undertaken many in house and external training programmes throughout my apprenticeship which have been directly related to my position and about construction in general. These range from general health and safety, first aid training, site manager safety training course to specific training such as underground services. I have learnt a lot through working and day to day training from my direct boss and other piers in the company. These are skills in my specific job role and in other areas of construction.
