  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Technical Apprentice, going through rotations which involve several departments throughout the company. These include shop op placements, as well as manufacturing Support and product development areas

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • All qualifications gained (PEO's, BTEC Manufacturing engineering, HNC Manufacturing Engineering. fault finding trees and the thought processes to gain the route causes. 5s skills and ergonomic understanding

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel the program is okay up to the point a department chooses who they want. after this stage it is one rule for one, one rule for another. It appears that only certain person are allowed to move into the desired placement, with others being held back.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • locally within placements, you are valued as a member of the team. However at a HR level you are not valued and made to feel singled out within the team

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • College side of the programme is spot on. however in work structuring for work completion and the training is lacking.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • 1 day a week release to college. email support when required with additional tutorial sessions in the evenings following the college day.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • locally within the department, support is high. however when outside of this, with the apprentice manager and also HR. support is nonexistant

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • you cannot move out on an apprentice wage, however is meets the requirements to live at home and run a car just

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Community volunteering hours rejected due to selected scout group. only 4 hours granted for a days leave. 4 hours unpaid.

  • Yes

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Be Honest with experience, ensure you are punctual and well presented which will give you a massive edge over most applicants!
