My role is an audit junior. This means going out to clients and auditing their financial statements by testing each section of the p+l account, balance sheet ect.. The tests I normally carry out include: bank testing, income testing, expenses & CoS testing, journals testing + sometimes debtors/creditors testing.
I am developing lots of new skills. These include on the job skills such as client service, audit testing skills + associated knowledge. I am also developing skills through exams, as I am currently studying for the ACA qualification, meaning I go to college and learn about accounting standards, double entries ect..
I really enjoy my programme. I get on well with my team and am very happy with the level of freedom I get from my managers. Having said this, they are always offering help and suggestions to improve my work and develop as an auditor, which is crucial to continue my career.
My team always makes me feel valued and useful, even when I may doubt what I can bring to the team. They put time and effort into helping my learn, which makes me feel valued as they consider it worth their effort to help me.
Induction was clear and precise. There are additional training sessions throughout the programme held at head office to ensure you continue to learn and develop at an appropriate pace. Tasks are delegated in order of ability/experience, meaning you start off with the easier tasks and increasing in difficulty as you get more experienced. This ensures you are always developing without the stress and strain that jobs you don't understand are given to you.
Training provider doesn't offer too much support - my tutor didn't even reply to my email when asking her a query. However, this seems to be an anomaly.
Lots, my manager is meant to review objectives and goals with me every 6 months. However, when you first start.out my manager reviewed them every 3 months with me to ensure I was getting the start I needed
My salary covers all my travel and living costs, with a bit left over to save and spend. As most 18 year olds wouldn't have had this amount of income before, it allows you to live comfortably if you are sensible.
S&W often have social nights and activates to bond with your team, as well as other members of the company you may not speak to on a day to day basis.
Yes
Offer good help, with a decent salary, generally just a great place to start of a career in accounting.
Research the company and make sure you know what your talking about in interviews. Don't be afraid to ask questions, be polite but don't be boring - make sure you try and engage the interviewer in interesting conversation so you stand out/will be remembered.
