  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am working towards becoming a construction manager over a 4 year period. For the first two years I completed a construction HNC at LSBU and I am now working towards my level 6 NVQ. My daily tasks include working with sub contractors to ensure all of the works in my package are being done in a safe way and in line with the program.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • over the past 4 years I have learnt lots of new skills to do with my role. These include: management skills, team working skills, coordination skills and many more. My knowledge within my industry has also greatly increased because of getting experience on site and also various training courses I have done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my time at mace so far. This has been because of the interesting projects I have been a part of, and also the brilliant people I work with. I look forward to going to work and seeing what is going to happen the next day. Every day working with mace is different because of the constant progress on site which leads to a changing work environment.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mace?
  • As a trainee at mace, I do feel very valued by my company. This is because I am given responsibilities than always push me to work hard and continue learning. By having responsibilities at work, I have people relying on me to get work done which makes me feel a solid part of the business.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship programme is very well structured and organized. This is because of a very good leadership team that look after all of the trainees within the business. There is regular communication from them and they are always keeping us in the loop with what is coming up in the near future for us.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I always receive good support from my training provider. If I have any queries regarding coursework/deadlines, they are always quick to reply and help me with my worries. There is regular communication with them to all there students. they also make us feel very welcome to go to them in person to ask any questions we may have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Whenever I am in need of support because there are things that I am unsure or unhappy about, I can always rely on the HR team to help me out with nay of my queries. This make me feel comfortable at work and I don't feel on my own at any point.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary/ package is very competitive and it meets my costs very well. There is regular pay reviews which make me feel like I am always progressing in my career and it is very rewarding. The benefits I get with working at Mac are also very good making it all worthwhile.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Mace are very good at providing opportunities outside of work. These might be volunteering days or team building days. there are also lots of social events put on by mace which is a good opportunity to get to know your colleagues across the business which you may not normally get to know in your day to day job.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend mace to a friend. this is because I have been very satisfied with my time at mace so far and I am very proud to work for the company. The opportunities that mace have given me over the past 2 and a half years have been very good and I am looking forward to what the future will bring whilst working for mace.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • To any one applying to the mace trainee or graduate schemes, my advice would be to apply as early as possible and learn about the company before coming to any interviews. This will show that you are determined to work for the company and will set you up well if you are offered the job.
