  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Sales and Marketing in the client data team. I support the wider sales desks. This involves creating reports on financial figures and campaigns. I work on new projects involving CRM and data cleanses. I help to ensure that the data reflected on our system is accurate and up to date.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become more proficient in excel, salesforce and other software tools. Also, we attend different training courses internally that help to develop our soft skills such as time management. These are useful in helping you expand your personal effectiveness. The external training sessions held by Fitch Learning and the Investment Association help us to learn more in depth about the Investment Management industry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the program. The people, culture and wider opportunities make working at Schroders very pleasant. It is an excellent program as a school leaver to gain experience working within asset management. You are provided with many different opportunities throughout the year to get involved in and you are able listen to different talks held. You are able to work in a professional environment and be supported in your career.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Schroders?
  • I feel very valued by Schroders and this has been demonstrated by the internal support given and wide range of opportunities provided. There are plenty of socials and activities that range from sport to theatre. I am encouraged to ask questions and expand my skills. There are different talks, breakfasts and lunch & learns provided throughout the year which provide useful insight.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured with a list of training days given and extra training opportunities throughout the year. We also study for the Investment Foundations qualification provided by the CFA. This helps to ensure that we have a wider understanding of the industry. To make sure you are on top of learning you need to be regularly be revising.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have received regular support through training and insight days that we are invited to from i2020. There is a learning portal that helps us revise for the qualification. You can contact the tutors on the portal too. Otherwise, the revision materials are provided, but it is up to you when you study for it.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A large amount of support is given daily by my managers. They are willing to answer any questions whilst working and support your learning by encouraging you to study for the qualification and go to the training sessions provided. There is wide support given by Schroders which include the induction week where you are given plenty of materials and initial sessions that help you to smoothly transition from school to the workplace.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As a trainee from school it is a good salary compared to some others. There are further benefits provided which help. Although, the commute into work can be expensive there are travel loans provided for those who might need it. I can meet my costs at the moment because I am living at home but if I were to move out my costs would rise.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many fantastic opportunities provided. There is a range of events throughout the year and different clubs to join depending on preference. There have been many quiz nights I have attended. Schroders is a very good employer regarding volunteer initiatives. I have been able to volunteer at a primary school and speak at an assembly.

  • 9. Would you recommend Schroders to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes. The good atmosphere and friendly employees make the firm a great place to work. My team are pleasant to work with and the exposure given to the industry is excellent. I have been able to attend ‘coffee meetings’ with employees across Investment and Distribution. These have been very helpful in providing further insight. Also, you are able to join different networks across the firm.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schroders?
  • It is important to be open and friendly during the interviews and use your own initiative when answering the questions. Like in any other interview you must be professional and clear in your answers. Read through all your answers beforehand. Further, it is important to think logically before choosing your answers with a valid reason for each choice.
