  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice you are involved with assisting engineers, in particular using Microstation a form of Computer-Aided-Design to create drawings. Using specialist software to create alignments for new railways and modifications to existing railways.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Courses have been conducted to improve competence in certain software packages. Other external courses have also been offered to assist with gaining a greater appreciation for railway (permanent way) engineering.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In the varied roles it assumes the work was stimulating and the company culture was one of learning through experience and particularly from more experienced engineers.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?
  • Employees are recognised internally by management for their efforts, he company treats it's employees fairly and responsibly.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was well structured, and support was offered from the company to assist with an studying, mentors were assigned to guide us through the induction into the company and for general assistance thereafter.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There was generally good support from the training provider, such as from the various tutors. It depended on the individual; if they sought help and showed willingness then the tutors were more than willing to assist.

  • Support is offered at all levels from Management through to HR.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It more than covers my expenses.

  • There are opportunities, such as social gatherings, sports and leisure activities after work, etc.

  • Yes
