  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Job title is Civil Apprentice/apprentice project leader. daily tasks include helping out with other projects, designing, drawing. I sit with my team which gives me support and help when ever I need it. I often interact with people externally via the companys lync system, phones and emails. I'm currently responsible for doing the completions at Sneaton castle SRE. my daily routine is checking and rplying to emails from the evening before, then from there on it varies, I can be doing cad work, completions, data input and many other tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I'm currently studying 1 day a week at Leeds college of building where I do subject like , maths, graphical drawing, science and material and many more, however my team have taken it upon them selves to go out of there ways to improve my learning while working, taking time to explain jargon to me and also take me to several sites so I can learn what the company is aiming to do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I joined the Mott Macdonald apprenticeship program after beginning the first year of A levels and I have never looked back, it has exceeded my expectations and I enjoy every day of work, and don't Dread the end of a weekend like I have in the past.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?
  • I feel extremely valued by Mott Macdonald and when I began working here, I was made to feel extremely welcome within the office and my team. Mark Ewan, played a great part in welcoming me and the other apprentices, by introducing himself and offering to listen and try to help with any concerns or issues through my time here at Mott MacDonald.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say the structure could be a little better how ever it is adequate, however my team were unaware they had an apprentice joining them, this caught them unaware and at the beginning they had no work for me to do.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • They are always available to support us if needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Similarly there is always somebody available to listen and try to help out with your concerns or issues.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My package is good however my costs to get to work are expensive due to high insurance costs and doing over 90 miles per day. however I enjoy the work I do which makes up for this.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is always socials and at special times of the year there is 'fun' afternoons. your work hours can vary as long as your doing your hours and here before 9:00AM and after 4:00PM which allows you to catch trains or avoid rush hour traffic allowing you to not lose out on your time out of work.

  • Yes

  • They are a reputable company with a good culture and good ethics.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Ask lots of questions to prepare you for your fist day, and make sure you know your package. if was in that position again I would have asked what type of work I would have been doing so I knew in anticipation.
