  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Digital Marketing Assistant - Managing agencies/content to deliver online digital marketing campaigns and business as usual services to clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a variety of professional skills, attuned myself more with various Microsoft office programmed and most importantly have honed a business tone of voice.

    9/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I felt after a short while (maybe 3/4 months) I was already capable of doing the job I had been brought in to do to the fullest and so resented earning less than my peers. However, the apprenticeships do give people an opportunity to get into employment in the first place, which when I was looking for work was a real difficulty. I enjoyed having a job, being part of a team and learning when I felt I was learning.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Co-op?
  • I do feel integral to the team, however appreciation from my manager throughout the apprenticeship was not necessarily forthcoming - I think this was just her style though. I certainly think my immediate team at the time valued me and also felt the apprentice team within the group were always there to support me and were very interested in progress I have made/issues I may have encountered.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Truthfully, the communication between the course provider (JPL), the apprentice team and my immediate work colleagues was perhaps a little weak, leading to misunderstandings between parties and occasional appreciation of work carried out/which needed to be completed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Paul was excellent. If ever I needed help, Paul would have ben there without a problem. However, contact with the company as a whole was at best occasional.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The apprenticeship team were there and very willing to help at all times. If ever I had an issue, I felt it was dealt with professionally and with the best interests of all parties at heart.

    10/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At the time it was difficult (I am now in other employment within The Co-operative). I certainly could not have afforded to live if I were not living at home at the time - which is a big negative for the programme I feel. Often the ones who enter into apprenticeships are those who have least support from family units, and for this reason, I think the scheme may be failing those and would fail me were I to consider an apprenticeship now.

    3/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am not sure I understand the question. The group as a whole are constantly promoting staff engagement activities and relationships in the team/on special occasions such as Christmas have resulted in social events which are always enjoyed.

    5/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I love the business model and for the most part feel the group treats its staff very well and provides support if needed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Applications are fine - done online. The interview process is atrocious to those who have not studied and had explained to them the format. Assessment days were always a pleasure with Paul. There is plenty of experience to be gained in a variety of roles and opportunities within all teams in the business.
