Overhead line Craftsperson Review

On site we maintain the transmission lines for the country modernizing and fixing and issues. when we train we are taught and assessed on our knowledge and practical ability at Eakring training center.

Ive learned a lot in the last year, a lot more than I thought I would be qualified for. we also learn key things such as British values, respect, integrity, ownership and that we are all one team, one grid.

I really enjoy the apprenticeship, we get top quality training and help when needed with anything.

I feel really valued at the Nationalgrid, we work as a team in all aspects.

we are given a plan detailing when we are training and when we are on site which is useful so you know exactly when and what you are doing.

we receive a lot of support when we are training and on site, if we are struggling you can ask anybody and they are happy to help.

we have a mentor when on the apprenticeship which is a lot of help when on site as they walk you through things and stand back when needed to let you think about ideas to do the job. But even if your mentor isn't there the whole team still help you out as if they are your mentor. Are line managers are good as they will point you in the right direction for anything you need like any extra support you need.

The salary is very good, we get paid the living wage not minimum wage at the start and a pay rise every year on the apprenticeship which is quite a bump up.

There are a lot of events you can get involved in, there are tea mornings and a lot of conventions you can get involved with.

I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone as you are treated like a person and feel included in everything you do, the money is good and the training is top quality.

Do your research on the company and find out what you want to be doing in the company. Be yourself when you fill out the application and are lucky enough to get through to the interview stage, its important to have the right frame of mind to work as a team and to keep health and safety as your first priority.
