  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Application Support. As part of a shared support team, we provide application/middleware suport for a number of customers. I predominantly support the FCA. We support a number of their systems, from gathering regulatory controlled data from financial companies, criminal case intelligence, to their internal intranet and internet site, fsa.gov.uk. However, I am currently gaining knowledge to support other projects such as Hyperion.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, within my team there is requirement to develop and to gain knowledge of a vast amount of skills. This includes SQL and databases, JAVA, HTML, operating systems. I have attended many online course using a pluralsight account. Further to this, I have also attended internal and external courses (provided by the college)

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am extremely enjoing my time working for Fujitsu. The team that I am situated in are very helpful in regards to developing my skills, gaining knowledge of products and providing guidance on the Fujitsu procedures. I didn't quite know what to expect when I first joined Fujitsu as I do not have an IT background.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Fujitsu?
  • Yes, Fujitsu have put in a process on continous feedback and I have been recognised and appreciated by my manager, career manager, external customers and other internal colleagues. I have also been awared a 'big thankyou award' and team bronze award.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At first because it was a new experience for Fujitsu and my team, it did get confusing. However, now I have developed my confidence and skills I have been descibed as an invaluable member. I am constantly keeping busy whether it's studying college work, attending meeting or carrying out the daytoday duties.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My college tutors have been very helpful in regards to developing my knowledge. However, I have found in past that sometimes that they are not always reliable being contactable.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support, frequent praises. I receive support from my manager, mentor and 'buddy'. Someone is always available to help!

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • In my circumstances I am currently living at home with my parents and live within 30 minutes away from work, which means that travel cost is inexpensive. Although, if the situation did change then I would of struggled to fund the daily costs. However, compared to most apprenticeships Fujitsu pay there employees a good salary package.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Within Fujitsu, there is many fund raising events that seem to happen every month or so. This is something that I hope to get more involved in.
