1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
Business Administration Apprentice. Daily duties involves creating campaign numbers, cleansing and running data on CRM (Customer Relationship Management), handling mail, handling invoices and creating purchase requisitions. I also help within the internal communications team, updating EGGER Net and EGGER Tv daily, i also created the company Christmas Newsletter. I am responsible for the returns of direct marketing, this includes direct mail and sample orders, i have to maintain the customers accounts on crm to ensure all of the details are correct.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, i have been on an all day excel course to refresh my skills on this. Furthermore i have gained alot of confidence since starting this role as I have to speak to lots of different employees and customers. I am working towards my level 3 nvq in business administration, as well as learning many on the job skills. I now have a good knowledge of CRM, which i had never come across before I started this role. I also help the Graphic Designer with some of her projects, which involves me using a Mac computer which I had never used before. I have gained some knowledge on how to use InDesign and Photoshop which I would not have had the ability to do beforehand.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I work within the Marketing department and so far I am really enjoying my time here. The team I work with is very friendly and everyone gets on well. Morale is high and the office is modern and bright. The jobs i am given are quite challenging and I have new tasks everyday. I am involved in all aspects of the marketing department including product marketing, internal comms and digital marketing.
4. How valued do you feel by Egger?
I feel valued by my company, especially within my office as i receive recognition from my peers when i complete tasks. Those who work within my office trust me to fulfill roles for them which gives me a high level of responsibility. I have meetings every feew weeks to catch up on my progress with my line manager. Furthermore, my manager puts me onto courses to extend my learning and knowledge which makes me feel valued.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
Very good. I had an induction week on my first week which was well structured and I knew exactly what my plans were for that week. Within the company i feel like my programme is very well structured as I have recently received training of each department in the plant. However I feel like my coursework could be better structured as I am often unaware of when my deadlines are.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
My trainer comes to EGGER every six weeks or so and she goes through with me what I need to complete and by when. Although I think this could be helpful, at the moment I am finding it hard to get into contact with my assesor. We do not speak frequently and I would prefer more frequent visits and potentially with the other apprentices who are completing the same programme as me as we would be able to communicate more and help eachother. However having all of my modules able to view on onefile is good as it lets me know what I will need to fill out throughout the programme.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I receive a lot of support from my employer, the human resources team provide training courses each month which I can attend. Everyone in my office alway has a positive attitude when I have questions and do not understand something. The accessibility of support is good as I know who I would speak to if i was having a problem within the workplace.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
I have to pay for my travel and living costs every week, however when i pay all of these bills every month i have a good amount of money left over. EGGER pays the national living wage which is a bonus. I live only 15 minutes away from EGGER so therefore this role is perfect for me.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
Company sports events - active workplace games - a fun opportunity to get out of the office and take part in team events. The location of EGGER is good as Hexham has a large leisure centre with swimming pool. The company also has EGGERUNS in place which is where EGGER employees can take part in runs which are sponsored by EGGER for every km ran. When i wasnt working at EGGER I had a part time job and also attend gym classes every week. The company also has a Christmas Party every year.
9. Would you recommend Egger to a friend?
They are one of Northumberland's largest employers, and they pay the national living wage to all employees. Rotation within the company means i will be spending time in a couple of different departments which can expand my knowledge. EGGER also has great employee perks such as discount from local health clubs and restaurants. I am gaining a nationally recognised qualification, while still earning money at the same time.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Egger?
Research the company and remember some facts and figures which you can tie into your interview. Ask as many questions as you find helpful when you are having interviews. Also if you can then attend the ApprenticeOpen Day as this will give you a lot of information from current employers experience. Prepare in advance for the interview and make sure your CV is up to date and try and mention EGGER within your CV.
