  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the Counterparty Oversight Team as a Trainee. My team works within the operations department, which facilitates the settlement of trades. Our role is to act as a single point of contact for brokers and custodians. My daily tasks vqary greatly, as we are involved in all parts of operations, helping to resolve and prevent issues our teams face by leveraging coutnerparts to deliver our service requirements. Additional to BAU, I am currently the designated member of my team for a company-wide project for moving to a new building. I trial new technology and initiatives and report my feedback for how I think will best benefit our future environment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am studying towards the foundation certificate of the CFA. As part of this scheme I have been on many courses centered around personal development, professional development and academic development. Working in the industry every day has helped my knowledge of how the financial services sector works to grow incredibly rapidly; this is particularly helpful as I have no previous experience or knowledge of the industry.

  • Schroders regularly put on out of work activities to ensure that their employees feel valued: poker, baking, sport and concerts, are but just a few. My manager regularly gives me feedback in one-to-ones, always focussing on how best to develop myself, explaining work I have completed well and how I can improve others.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have access to a tutor from our training provider who can help with queries we have regarding the content - only available via email. There are online resources available, but they are not particularly reliable; they are often grammatically incorrect and contradictory.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is sufficient to meet travel costs as well as a quality of living, however this is while living with my parents. I may struggle to afford living expenses if I was responsible for my own property. Everyone always wishes for a better wage, but mine is suitable for my needs at present.
