  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As Games Publicity Apprentice, my daily tasks include: providing support to the Senior Publicity Manager (creating presentations, research tasks etc.), distributing UK press releases and following up with relevant social posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, assisting with publicity meetings and conferences, providing publicity materials cross-divisionally or to agencies and maintaining clippings, coverage and media contacts databases.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When becoming an Apprentice at WB, you will be entered onto a number of courses that will help you develop your personal skills to aid you in working life. These include: Presenting Me, Project Thinking Skills and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). You also have the opportunity to undertake an IT course, such as for Microsoft Excel. Aside from training courses, I have learnt so much from day-to-day work; I feel as though my communication skills have greatly improved, alongside my presentation skills and time management skills. I have been here for 7 months and still learn something new everyday.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme so far has been highly enjoyable. I am lucky enough to attend and provide support at some of the largest Gaming events in the UK, including EGX. The company culture is fairly relaxed, but still professional, which makings daily working life more enjoyable.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Unfortunately, I was delayed in beginning my Apprenticeship program and felt as though I wasn't given as much information as I could have been. However, I am now set to start this month (January) with an induction date booked. I have already spoken with the course provider, which was helpful and informative. I will have a mentor who will visit me once a month to help me with my studies.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My mentor will visit my workplace once a month to provide support and guidance in relation to my studies. The provider is a great company, with friendly staff and a fantastic website showcasing local events and courses that I can attend in relation to my program. If I ever need support I can drop them an email and expect a clear and helpful response.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The travel costs into central London are very high for me. My train season ticket price is extortionate, however WB offer me a travel warrant so that I can pay for it in one go and then pay them back in monthly instalments. However, as I am continuing to live at home, the salary is great and comfortable for me. I can imagine that living in central London would be much more difficult financially.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is always something going on at WB, and as I work in Games I often attend external gaming events. As the company works well cross-divisionally, I am offered the opportunity to attend other events such as film premieres. Each year, there is a great voluntary initiative titled 'Sleep Out', where WB staff brave the cold streets of London for one night in Winter to raise money for the homeless. Around the offices there are plenty of gyms and fitness clubs, in which we receive an employee discount. Unfortunately, due to long commute times and finish times, I have found that I have less spare time to do the things that I enjoy.

  • 9. Would you recommend WarnerMedia to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have learnt an exceptional amount here at WB and there is always room for career development with the wide array of opportunities on offer here. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and there's always something exciting going on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WarnerMedia?
  • Study the background of the company, specifically in relation to your program. Don't be too loud and authoritative at the Assessment Day; but show that you can work well in a team. Don't ask unnecessary questions just to get yourself out there, but ask thoughtful questions that are adapted to what you have been told about the program. Research the typical interview questions and ensure that you are ready to be put on the spot!
