  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Trainee Software Engineer. My daily tasks include software releases on a weekly basis, testing the software to ensure it meets Stannah requirements that we are following, also to make sure our software is meeting industry standards. Daily coding tasks and bug finding through the code and fixing machines that require extra attendance. Daily interactions with all disciplines of Engineering and constant updates to my boss with how I am doing and if I am enjoying what I am on which is nice. Also alot of opportunity to meet internal employees and build a relationship with the Stannah team. Responsible for completing tasks set to me as well as making sure the code I write is reliable and good. Working on the 280 project most of the time which I love but also jump on different projects to build my knowledge on our products and to become the best.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so much at Stannah and always learning new stuff everyday, sometimes makes me wonder how much I can store inside my brain. I now know how to read code and slowly getting to the stage where I start to question why someone has written their code a certain way (early stages but still progression). Everything I have learnt here has been a huge benefit to my uni degree and vice versa, I am more keen to get into my year 2 of uni where it will help me even more become better at my job. My personal attitude to work has been due to Stannah, my perception of professionalism has been due to the people I have been working around at Stannah. I am being shaped into a really good employee due to Stannah and I am very grateful. There is too much to list what I have learnt and going to be learning, I am very content with my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my job I always enjoy coming to work there is never a dull day, everyday is a challenge and I love it! The team are brilliant, they is great knowledge, experience, advice and banter within the department it makes everyday easy flowing. The company is a great place to work for they really look after you all they ask for in return is respect and commitment back which is not even a sweat. Ever since joining the company it continues to surprise me to meeting my expectations even exceeding them. I cant see me working for another company ever again to be honest. I enjoy every day I would even work weekends if needed (might take that back one day)

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stannah?
  • I almost feel like I have paid for a VIP experience here at Stannah. Again I could sit here and right so much positives about my boss but I will keep it short - I would easily say he is a good friend, always kind, helpful and just want me to do well, I give my all every single time and I hope he appreciates how much I appreciate him, cant fault him at all, he is always there when I need him and will stand up for me when needed. I like to feel my internal recognition is good, I always try to make sure my work for other people is to there standards and will always treat people how I would like to be treated so I hope I am getting a good name for myself. I am not treated as a trainee, my opinions, thoughts and ideas are treated as if I have the next best idea and I really like not being felt like a 'tea boy'

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Everything is well structured, the training is perfect, whenever I need training there are no 'if's and but's' its a straight yes and I am grateful, at the end of the day its for Stannah's benefits and they know that. My studying is carefully monitored to see how I am doing and if I am feeling any pressure which is nice to know that they care about my personal life and not want me to over do myself or fall behind work. I have regular monthly meetings with my boss and they are always a great confident boost to keep being me and striving for more praise. I manage my tasks cleverly and always know what to prioritise first. The team structure is really good and getting even better, we have a great Software team and it makes me feel comfortable knowing that if I am stuck I can always going to anyone for help. Programme is good there is no problems and wont ever be any problems, I am having trouble with a module at uni so Stannah are going to put me in the IT department to shadow people and ask them questions to help me with that module I am stuck on - what more could you want???

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I might be reading this wrong but I am assuming uni? Uni is good, could improve on communication but it is very good, I know what to learn and where to get the resources from. They are helpful with problems but some tutors can be a little relaxed to others which I cant help, the company are always there to prod the uni if needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Endless amounts of support all day everyday. Like I have said in number 4 my boss is excellent, his bosses are very nice too which boosts my morale even more. I get congratulated on my performance and its a great feeling when you are appreciated somewhere that means so much to you to do well. Support is always there and is very clear on where to go when needed.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well actually, I do not have problem with living costs or travel costs, I have just moved out of my parents house so we will see how well I manage my money, I am fairly strict on myself and have a habit of saving so overall the salary suits me.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company do a lot of events to keep the spirit up and relationships strong which is nice, there is improvement needed but we have a LIFE improvement page which has some good ideas from employees (and some whacky ones) but each one is discussed by the managers and directors which is thoughtful in my opinion. There is loads of opportunities to do stuff outside of work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Stannah to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • De Ja Vu ... Great company always wants the best out of its employees and will spend money on our training like its the air we breath (if that makes sense?) The pay is good which obviously turns peoples heads but the culture is better and everyones passion for the company to succeed is stronger than anything I have seen. Its nice to see other people passionate just like you, being around positive vibes brings positive moods and produces excellent results.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stannah?
  • Show you want to learn, are keen to fit the job role and want to grow to become better at what you do from training provided. Have a positive attitude and DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THE COMPANY. If you know what you want and really want it then you will have no problem. Grades are not always the key to getting the job, you as a person and your attitude is more important in my opinion.
