  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within Currys PC World was a "Sales Associate" this meant I had to perform general tasks around the shop such as restocking shelves, setting up displays as well as assisting customers with any issues or complaints. Furthermore I was required to take part in a variety of activities and programmes that would give me an insight into the workplace, for instance I was shown how CCTV and security worked.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Dixons Carphone?
  • Currys PC World valued me very highly and always put my contentment and safety first. I was always given appreciation and recognition from the workforce as a whole. Furthermore my involvement and engagement in activites was authentic and I really felt like I was a part of the team. However during peak times when there was a high inflow of customers I often found myself somewhat neglected and I felt like a burden to the team. Nonetheless I found myself very valued by Currys PC World

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the get-go my programme was comprehensively and adequately structured. This was as evident in the fact I almost always had a task to do and these tasks were always varied and left me with a sense of achievement and satisfaction; I felt like I was doing something with a true purpose. Furthermore throughout my time at Currys PC World my induction and general training was seamlessly orchestrated without compromising any knowledge or information. This is not to mention the support and clear line of hierarchy within the shop itself as I never found myself confused.

  • My training provider/mentor at Currys PC World was very polite and genuine even when I was confused or in need of help. From day one, she provided me with the necessary tools and support for every task and I never felt like I was being "fed with a silver spoon." Moreover she was very approachable and friendly, so asking for guidance was convenient and easy.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager, likewise with my training provider, was very polite and friendly when assisting me and always took into consideration any of my problems, complaints and suggestions. However unlike my training provider, my manager wasn't always available and therefore at times I felt like a burden, but this was understandable as he was a manager and had more important responsibilities.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As it was a work experience, there was no salary or wage, and since the establishment was local, all travel, living and daily costs were absent or relatively low. However for what was given, a priceless and invaluable insight into the working world; its conventions, hierarchy and conduct. For this the programme was well worth it and very satisfactory.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Outside of work there was very little opportunities, which is very common with work experiences. However there were exceptions. For instance there was a company picnic at a nearby park which not only gave me the opportunity to personally interact with employees and socialise, but it also provided variety and enjoyment to my experience. Furthermore, after my week my training provider showed her interest in possibly employing me in the future
