  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role differs from day to day. It works on a 3 month rotation. I spend 3 months at university and then three months on placement. Placements vary from BBC placements to external placements. Each placement is different. At university expect 9-6 lectures and lots of hard work and man hours.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned skills in telecommications from university and my placement with BT including satellite and ip networks. I have worked in galleries increasing my knowledge in production. I have worked in a music studio improving my knowledge of microphones acoustics.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Love it. Don't want to leave. Guys I work with are ace, bosses are switched on, the work can be brutal but you get to do cool stuff.

    10/10

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BBC?
  • I surprisingly felt less valued at the BBC in comparrison to my external placements. I felt more valued and more welcomed at BFBS and BT than any of my BBC placements. I did still feel welcome and involved with the BBC placements.

    5/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Its well managed considering the hurdles the course has to jump through. I would like more training at Wood Norton. I think the amount of training we get at Wood Norton is disgusting considering its purpose and the facilities available.

    6/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel I have the support. I possibly like more support when on placement, we are left to our own devices completely for 3 months. A monthly catchup phone call wouldn't go amiss.

    6/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel there is a lot of support from the BBC outside our immediate team. I have not yet taken advantage of this however.

    8/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Absolutely no complaints on that front. Costs are covered and I feel well looked after. I wouldn't say no to a payrise however!

    9/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • More opportunities would be nice especially considering the variety of work the BBC does. There are some but more would be appreciated.

    5/10

  • 9. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel I have learned a lot with the BBC and appreciate what they have done for me over the last two years.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Show a genuine interest in the BBC. Show a genuine interest in technology. Don't think that just because you have better grades than another applicant you're going to get the job, it's mostly based on temperament.
