  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was placed on a ward and got the opportunity to visit different clinics on different days to broaden my experience. It involved different procedures and different staff members and that meant that I had the broadest experience possible. However, at times it was a bit disorganised on some days but that was due to the nature of the ward itself.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt many skills including team working, time management, communication and a plethora of others. I learnt how to work in a clinical environment and how staff members dealt with different pressures on the ward. I also learned how the ward was working in an efficient manner to ensure the smooth running of the clinic. Overall, I learnt many things but would of liked more hands on experience.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NHS?
  • I feel that I was not disreguarded in any shape of form during the experience. My learning was always put first and all demonstrations were explained to me in detail. I felt valued as all of the staff members took an interest in me and in my experience, reguardless of which staff member it was.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall, the experience was not as organised as I had hoped it would be initially. Although everyday was different it would be occasionally difficult to find a suitable staff member to do the experience with. This is because of the age restrictions on the ward. If i were to do it again I would like the experience to be pre scheduled so that the experience is alot more smooth and organised on the whole.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I was supported quite alot in my learning and was taught many things and everything was explained to me in detail even if I did not initially understand the explanation the first time round. This meant that everything was explained quite well and that I had a through understanding of everything that had been demonstrated by the end.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definetely recommend this experience again due to the supportive kind nature of the staff and the broad depth of knowledge that they gave me during my experience. I also liked it because of the amount of things and varied things I was able to experience.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • I would just make sure to listen to the introductions carefully to ensure that you know what to do on the day and how to act appopriately in the hospital. I also believe that it is really good experience so you should not miss out and should act appropriately and listen carefully on the experience so that you get the best out of it.
