  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was working in the shopping centre; learning product knowledge and sales techniques; I was responsible for serving customers, stock taking, cash handling, dealing with deliveries, ensuring a clean and safe working environment; I was responsible for the implementation of sales strategies - interacting with the public to promote our products; I was coordinating sales trackers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed excellent communication and negotiation skills; gained experience in working in a fast-paced environment; improved my ability to relate to different people; enhanced leadership qualities and experience working as part of a team; I improved my customer service, team building, teamwork and sales skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme to a large extent, I enjoyed working for expanding and growing company. I have thoroughly enjoyed working in a busy environment and improving my multi-tasking, customer service, sales, and teamwork skills. I have particularly enjoyed dealing with inventory management and ustomer enquiries.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I felt quite well valued by Aldi as the company demonstrated patience, positive approach and willingness to teach each staff member new processes; he company provided a significantly supportive environment. Aldi succeeded in treating their staff members with respect and giving everyone an equal opportunity to get on.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall, the programme was well organised and structured; it was a programme in which I could progress into management. My monthly meeting were fine, the knowledge I gained was invaluable, however, during the working experience in the store we could not offer suggestions or complain about how we were moved around in the store.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider was always assisting me and supporting me throughout my apprenticeship experience. It was easy to stay motivated, I felt that I was a part of a larger team and produced my best work. I felt that my training provider cared about our success and job satisfaction, and provided support whenever it was needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer actively supported me throughout the training programme, and I had a very well-structred training from my first day in the store, and a lot of important feedback on how to improve my performance. I also had a support staff member who helped me whenever I was struggling with a particular part of my role and helped me attain more confidence.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary was quite fine, but I was looking to move onto a higher pay rate in the near future. I had no travel related costs as the Aldi store was located near to were I was living. Overall, the salary/package was fine and I could meet my maintenance and living costs. For the apprentice the salary was fine.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The few opportunities I could see outside of the work experience that I had undertaken was in the university where I could further develop my retail, sales and customer service knowledge and skills during lectures through discussions, revisions and examinations. Furthermore, there are opportunities to advertise Aldi at certain events through the year.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Aldi is an excellent place to start your career, it is a very busy and constantly improving business. This work opportunity is excellent for hard-working, customer-focused and outgoing individuals. The staff members that you work with are very easy to get along with and it is easy to fit into the company's culture. Furthermore, Aldi provides great opportunities to those wishing to potentially move onto management.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Make sure you prepare for interview very well, and arrive on time. Interview questions are normally open-ended, starting with words like "describe", "detail", and "explain". The interviewer is looking to see not only how you have handled (or would handle) certain situations but also how relevantly, concisely, and courteously you speak.
