  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Smart futures students. We spent two weeks together, learning valuable information about the company and did a variety of different presentations and case studies. In our last week we got to spend it in a service line which we had to present on and talk about to other departments. In the programme we had to present alot! And answer alot of questions on the spot after a presentation. It really helps to build confidence

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt better presentation skills, communication skills and increased knowledge on the firm and the services they offer. We got to present to high employed people such as partners and this helped to become more confident. My time management skills have also improved ad we often had presentation deadlines

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was great, i have met some really good people who I am still in contact after. I think it's great that we get given a mentor that we can keep in regular contact. It was great working in EY as it gave a real insight as to what it would be like working for one of the big 4

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • Very. I felt we were valued. I felt like they treated us like actual employees and gave us alot of trust and responsibility . The office didn't come across too corporate or overwhelming. It was a nice working environment and all the staff were friendly. They were very informative when asking questions and were polite.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very. Each day was planned out well and each day consisted of the tasks we were going to do and what we would learn from such task. 2 weeks were 'classroom' based although not in an actual classroom and the last week was spent in the office with actual employees

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We had alot of support and questions raised were always answered. We was always made aware or appropriate contacts and we were given contact details that we could contact after the programme had finished. Regarding the CMI we were given help when needed and questions never went unanswered. I couldn't fault the support given.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As it's a 10 months programme- I am a still receiving support from my EY mentor but the support given at the office during the programme was great. I felt I always had someone to talk to. Things were always laid out clear and we were always given the relevant contact details.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I believe the salary was more than enough and met the costs you needed to travel to the office and back. (Train fare etc) with plenty extra. I also feel that they are one of few companies who pay for work experience so that is a bonus, as I would of happily done the work experience free!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We were told that there would be regular events and opportunities on offer for the students within our programme could attend throughout the 10 months, but as I have just finished - this is yet to come. I'm sure there should be one this October (So not long after the programme finishes).

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great company for work experience. They make you feel valued. The experience is also paid. Good to add one of the big four on your CV. I'm sure they put us in for a CMI level 2 team leading course - which is an additional qualification to put on your CV and make you more employable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • When applying to EY, think about what you can get from the programme, and when you're there - ask questions as this was heavily stressed when doing my work experience here. I would also recommend that you research the company well and the service line you want to go into e.g assurance, tax, advisory etc.
