  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • PwC Business Insight Week 2017. This was a one week work experience programme. On the Monday, 60 people doing the programme from all over the south east met at PwC's More London office for a general introduction to the week where we learnt more about what PwC do, got insights into their three lines of service offered on this programme (assurance, consulting and tax) and then sorted out the logistics of the week. The next three days we separated and went out to our specific offices (I was at Embankment Place). Everybody was given a buddy to spend these three days with and my buddy was very friendly in originally giving me an overview of what he does. We were working in assurance and I spent the three days shadowing my buddy, so basically just everything he did he just explained to me what he was doing. There was not that much individual work to do, which was the only real drawback of the programme. On the final day we went back to More London and had to give presentations in teams of eight on either sustainability or technology.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt a lot about assurance including some very technical details. But the main skill I developed through the week was networking.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall it was very good fun as I got to meet so many people from all different backgrounds and different experiences. As previously mentioned, the worst bit of the week was that on some occasions there was little to do because my buddy had very little work as it is summer.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • PwC valued us very well as everyone I spoke to was very friendly and welcoming to me. Furthermore, they paid everyone in London £9.75 per hour and gave everyone so many freebies from pens to pads to hoodies.

    9/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • PwC organised the programme very well and everything ran very smoothly. With the buddy it was less predictable because I just did whatever he did with him but in a way this made it interesting as every day was different.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support was good and there were always people to talk to.

    7/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC were the trainer and employer so see above.

    7/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary in London was £9.75 per hour. PwC pay your expenses to travel to More London but you have to pay to go to your base office. I think this salary is very good as it is above minimum wage and many similar programmes would be unpaid.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am sure that PwC do many things outside of work but we were only there for one week so not really long enough to explore them all.

    6/10

  • 9. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a large company with a great reputation and provides a whole host of jobs and programmes suitable for almost anyone.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • The application process and interview are all very well explained on the website before you apply so as long as you are controlled and confident then you will be fine. Just be yourself!
